“Take Your Kids Tramping” for Conservation Week
This Sunday we were at Harwood’s Hole to lead a group of around 30 people, including young children, on a tramp into this majestic area of the Abel Tasman National Park. The weather was perfect (if a bit too sunny), and everyone was full of energy and positivity. Even the youngest trampers made the return trip on their own 2 feet!
Along the way we stopped to talk about things like pest control (which included counting the traps we passed on the trap line – and checking them, too. We saw 2 freshly caught rats!), forest ecology, the work that DOC and Project Janszoon are doing in this area of the Park, and just generally enjoying a gorgeous afternoon together.
When we’d returned to the car park, one youngster was overheard saying to their parents, ‘When are we coming tramping again’?
We hope the answer is ‘soon’!
