Science is Definitely Worth Celebrating!
The Project Janszoon and DOC education teams were invited to lead an activity at the Cawthron’s “Celebrate Science” events held at Parklands School in Motueka on Tuesday, and at Victory School in Nelson yesterday.
We had so much fun working with over 200 budding biologists over the course of 2 days. After talking about what a biologist is, what they know, what they do, and how important they are to the work that Project Janszoon and DOC do – we launched into our “Biologist Impossible” activity.
Student teams had to choose 3 cards at random: a native animal, a pest animal and a habitat. Then, together, they had to decide how well-suited their native and their pest animal were to their habitat found within the Abel Tasman National Park. The engaged conversations that ensued, and the thoughtfulness that went into completing the activity, were more than a little bit impressive.
Well done, young biologists!
