"Adopt a Section" Programme Launch Powhiri
Yesterday was a very exciting day for Project Janszoon Education! We launched our new pilot programme "Adopt a Section" with a powhiri at the Te Awhina marae in Motueka.
While there has been a lot happening in the background at our partner schools with teachers and principals, this was the first time that the Project Janszoon and DOC teams had a chance to meet student representatives and to introduce this new programme to them. It was also a great opportunity for everyone to connect the programme and our work in the Park with local iwi.
So what is "Adopt a Section"? It is a partnership between schools, Project Janszoon and DOC. Each school has its own unique place in the Park - a "section" where they can take part in just about any kind of hands-on learning you can imagine. There will also be plenty of opportunities for schools to take action as they discover more about problems or challenges - or simply get inspired to make positive change. Students will work with programme partners to figure out what is needed at their section, what they want to learn more about, and to get hands-on.
After all of the time we've spent planning and getting ready, we are really looking forward to getting to know the schools, students and teachers in the programme. It's one of the things that makes "Adopt a Section" special: we are all one, big team helping each other, brainstorming with each other, and bringing all of our interests and expertise together to make things happen.
We hope you'll follow the work our partner schools are doing by visiting their school and project pages on this web site.
