Being a YELF Delegate

25 April 2016 / Posted by Janszoon Education

I was selected by the Sir Peter Blake Trust for the Youth Enviro-Leaders Forum for 2016, held in Nelson during the term 1 school holiday, for a week of inspiration, learning, adventure and meeting new people.

We spent our time learning about ocean health, pest eradication and biodiversity, and going to new places and experiencing things that were truly life changing.

I visited Cawthron Institute, Anchorage, Cable Bay, SpatNZ HQ, Nelson Port, Brooke Waimarama Sanctuary, and I did tonnes of other activities that changed my perspective of life. I made loads of new friends who have the same drive and enthusiasm, to achieve change in this world and make a difference.

We may be scared, but we need to face climate change, global warming and extinction, or it will be the end of us. Our generation needs to face these problems head on.

I truly recommend this opportunity for anyone else interested. It is completely paid for, and you learn so much about yourself through the experience. - Conor
