Adopt a Section Pōwhiri

Our school is now part of Adopt a Section. Before getting started in the programme, we thought that we should welcome our Adopt a Section partners from Project Janszoon and DOC into our school community. We decided that a pōwhiri would be the best way to mark this special occasion and formalise our relationship.

Students and teachers at Golden Bay High School worked very hard to prepare for the big day. When it finally arrived, the whole school was there and ready as we waited for the pōwhiri to begin.

It was exciting when the karanga started and our partners were led into the hall and finally took their seats. Then the whaikōrero began.

The whole school got involved with the haka, kapa haka and waiata. It was exciting to feel he hall come to life with our voices and energy!

After the pōwhiri, the director of Project Janszoon gave a short presentation to the students and staff about what the trust is about, about some of the things that live in the  Abel Tasman that make it special, and how our school can be part of this big restoration project.
